NRX Global Inc. President/CEO Receives Distinguished Foreign Service Award from Members of Congress for his work as Senior US Diplomat to Bermuda (2005 – 2009)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 21, 2010 – Members of the Congressional Black Caucus today presented NRX Global Inc. President and CEO Gregory Slayton with the Distinguished Foreign Service Award for his work as the United States Senior Diplomat to Bermuda from August 2005 to August 2009.

During his four years as Consul General and Chief of Mission to Bermuda, Slayton is credited with dramatically improving U.S./Bermuda relations. The Premier of Bermuda, the Honorable Dr. Ewart Brown, publicly lauded Slayton’s achievements when the diplomat stepped down from his post late last year, “U.S./Bermuda relations are as good or better than they have been in many years – and we owe that in large part to the hard work, diplomatic skill and sheer perseverance of our friend Gregory Slayton.”

Slayton conceived of and led the first official bilateral diplomatic visit by Bermuda’s Premier to Washington D.C. in 2006, and succeeded in making it an annual event. Slayton also chaired one of the largest Fourth of July events in the world, outside of the U.S. during his tenure. More than 10,000 Bermudians and expatriates attended the gatherings, and much of the money raised for the events was donated to participating Bermuda non-profits. Slayton also led signings of a number of key diplomatic agreements that strengthened U.S./Bermuda relations, including the first ever U.S./Bermuda Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty. Slayton, first appointed by President Bush, was extended twice by the Obama administration—a rare diplomatic honor.

“It has been a true pleasure for me—and for many of my colleagues from both Parties—to work with Gregory Slayton on a whole range of U.S./Bermuda issues over the past four years,” said U.S. Congresswoman Diane Watson (D-CA). “On behalf of my House and Senate colleagues from both Parties, we thank Mr. Slayton for his service to our Nation.”

Slayton joined NRX in the fall of last year and has led a complete overhaul of the company. “It is great to see the hard work of all of my NRX colleagues beginning to pay off here,” Slayton says. “It was a true honor to be a senior US diplomat, but it is just as much of an honor to help our great team at NRX Global build one of Canada’s leading enterprise software companies.”

Before his work in Bermuda, Slayton was the managing director of Slayton Capital, a private venture capital firm. As an investor and advisor, Slayton served on the board of advisors of Google, Salesforce.com, and Oakley Networks. During his 12 years in Silicon Valley, the Wall Street Journal called him “one of Silicon Valley’s best young CEO’s”, as Slayton successfully built a number of well known software companies. He has also served in senior executive roles in a number of Fortune 500 companies, including Paramount Studios and McKinsey & Company.
